Innovation That Frees: Why at Eskuad We Fight the "Ghost Shift"

Eskuad has been recognized with the Building Happiness 2025 award in the Innovation category. But for us, innovation isn’t measured in lines of code — it’s measured in hours of life given back.

When I founded eSkuad, I had one obsession: the “Ghost Shift.”

In industries like forestry, mining, or logistics, the workday doesn’t end when the field operator leaves the site. There’s an invisible, unpaid shift that happens at the kitchen table, at 9pm. It’s the time workers spend retyping crumpled paper forms and fighting with Excel spreadsheets to produce reports that technology should have already solved hours earlier.

That “Ghost Shift” is the biggest enemy of workplace happiness in the field. That’s why receiving the Building Happiness 2025 recognition in the Innovation category from Buk means something special to us. It confirms our technology is achieving its most human purpose: giving people their time back.

The “It’s Already Done!” Moment

We often run into skepticism. Field workers have been “burned” too many times by tools that don’t work without signal, or that are just hard to use.

The most rewarding moment of my job is watching a user fill out their first digital form in eSkuad — still doubtful — and suddenly realize the reports generated themselves. That instant when they say, “Wait, so the job’s already done?”, and understand that today they’ll actually get home in time to see their kids before bed… that’s the real metric of our innovation.

Happiness From the Inside: The Eskuad Standard

You can’t export happiness if you don’t live it internally. At eSkuad, we believe innovation comes from people who genuinely care about the problem they’re solving.

To keep that flame alive, we’ve built a culture rooted in closeness and transparency:

  • Rituals with purpose: From our weekly meetings to share wins and problems, to our twice-yearly gatherings where we put the screens down to play and eat together in person, to visiting users on-site to share in their day-to-day.
  • Flat organization: We eliminate barriers. We use live communication systems and open-knowledge platforms so everyone has the power to decide and propose.

Our Philosophy: The Mirror Effect

Many founders believe innovation is purely a product question. I believe it’s a question of empathy.

As an organization, you have to build internally the standard of living you want to achieve for your users. If our team is happy, collaborative, and efficient, they’ll naturally want our users to live that same reality.

Thank you to the Building Happiness community and to Buk for this award. It inspires us to keep proving that the best technology is the kind that becomes invisible, so human life can be as visible as possible.
